 ASAPROSAR Leadership Program

The ASAPROSAR leadership program integrates the core of the ASAPROSAR philosophy of empowering Salvadorans. Dr. Guzmán began her mission teaching the rural poor how to be health promoters in their communities. The youth program at the Santa Ana bus terminal (Barefoot Angels Terminal) uses the same methodology of teaching a teacher to train young leaders.

The ASAPROSAR leadership program is in the initial stages and has identified leaders within their Barefoot Angels program who will be trained as facilitators for a larger group of youth. The facilitators are vital in planning the leadership activities and goals of the program. These chosen leaders range in age from 13-18 years old and the participants will be from a similar age group. ASAPROSAR staff will work in conjunction with the young fac ilitators in the areas of  life planning, self-esteem, entrepreneurship, pregnancy prevention, children’s rights, sexual exploitation and rights, child abuse and domestic violence.

Twelve leaders from the Barefoot Angels youth program will be facilitators for a group of 50 participants from the bus terminal area in Santa Ana, El Salvador. This program will initially be limited to the bus terminal area and limited to a small number of participants due to financial restraints but has great potential for continuing the ASAPROSAR mission of empowering the poor.
